Beaumont’s ‘Topping Off’ ceremony at Proton Therapy Center in Royal Oak

Construction project marks first single-room proton cancer treatment facility in Michigan

Members from Proton International's team were on-hand today as the Beaumont Proton Therapy Center placed the last steel beam on the top of the frame.

“It’s only fitting that some of our younger cancer patients, like Eugene Williams, 15, signed the final steel beam today. Kids like him will benefit from this promising, new technology. Proton therapy is very effective in treating certain types of pediatric cancers,” says Craig Stevens, M.D., Ph.D., chairman, Radiation Oncology, Beaumont Hospital - Grosse Pointe, Royal Oak and Troy. “Eugene, of Clinton Township, and his family understand the benefits of having this technology close to home. On more than one occasion they’ve traveled 600 miles to Philadelphia for proton therapy to treat his nasal cancer.”
