PI partner, HTI, escorts Jonathan Dimbleby at new Queens Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup

Our partners, HTI, are contracted to provide a turnkey design, build and equip satellite cancer centre to the main Guy's St.Thomas centre in London located in Sidcup on the Queen Mary campus. The agreement is funded directly through GSTT and Oxleas NHS Trusts. The centre contains 2 conventional linear accelerators, simulators, chemotherapy infusion centre, consultation and clinic accommodations, and patient and family support areas.

On the 27th of October, TV presenter Jonathan Dimbleby, patron of Dimbleby Cancer Care, made a site viist to the Queen Mary campus where PI employee Paul Rushton and HTI employee Sue MacLeod were able to escort the guests through the build.

Dimbleby Cancer Care and Macmillan Cancer Support are developing a state-of-the-art information and support centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup to enhance support for people affected by cancer and their families in the area. It will be an important part of a new Guy’s and St Thomas’ Cancer Centre on the Queen Mary’s Hospital site which is due to open in early summer 2016.

The £200,000 Dimbleby Macmillan Information and Support Centre will offer help to people from South East London and north Kent. It will operate five days a week and be staffed by volunteers who will offer a variety of services, including specialist information and advice, complementary therapies, exercise and relaxation classes and support groups. The new service will replace and expand on the work of the current Douglas Macmillan Centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital, where a dedicated team of volunteers and a Dimbleby Cancer Care information professional currently help people affected by cancer. The new Guy’s and St Thomas’ Cancer Centre is part of a £30 million redevelopment of the Queen Mary’s Hospital site which is owned by Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust.
