University Hospitals unveils Ohio’s first proton therapy center

31st of May, 2016 - University Hospital has formally unveiled its proton therapy center on the Cleveland campus. Almost one year ago, on June 29, 2015, Mevion Medical Systems delivered the superconducting synchrocyclotron accelerator for its MEVION S250 proton therapy system to University Hospitals (UH) Seidman Cancer Center and UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital in Cleveland.

Dr. Mitch Machtay, chairman of radiation oncology at UH Case Medical Center, said in a statement, "This technology will be a great complement to our existing state-of-the-art radiation oncology equipment and personnel at Seidman and more importantly, the lives of many people with cancer and their families will be ultimately enhanced by this investment."
